Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts that perpetuate the problems you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) suggests CBT for:
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
  • Depression
  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Panic
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Social Anxiety Disorder

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your thoughts, emotions and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover appropriate ways of managing.

Gemma was incredibly helpful, she made me feel safe to open up and gave me tools to help with my anxiety and anger as well as making me understand and view my issues from a new angle to open my eyes.

Gemma is a fantastic therapist and I highly recommend her. Earlier this year I was suffering with awful anxiety and depression following an illness and was in a very dark place. Gemma helped me to overcome these issues with CBT therapy and has given me the skills I need to take care of myself going forwards. Gemma has so much empathy and is very professional. I miss speaking with Gemma but I am equally glad that I don't 'need' to speak with her anymore. Her parting words were that she would always be there if I ever needed her again in the future. Thank you Gemma.

She is very easy to work with, very patient, supportive, guiding, gives homework which is reviewed, uses examples from every day life to help understand CBT generally. I enjoy our sessions.
